Local Heroes at Great Taste Awards

Three top quality regional food and drink businesses supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council's Growth Accelerator Programme have been recognised for the quality of their products at this year’s Great Taste Awards.  Judges awarded two stars to Clash Farm Pedigree Saddlebacks for their Red Wine and Fennel Salami. The judges also recognised the quality of Clash Farm's Chorizo, awarding it one star.

Saucy Desserts from Hightae near Lockerbie were awarded one star for both their Sticky Toffee Pudding with Pot of Toffee Sauce and their Gluten Free version of the same dessert.

The Cream of Roasted Tomato and Basil soup from The Galloway Soup Company was recognised by the judges and awarded one star.

Great Taste, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. It has been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world and the ‘epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize’. Quite simply the Great Taste logo is the sign you can trust when buying food and drink in your local, quality retailer.

The judges, from all corners of the food world, blind-taste in teams of 3 or 4. This year, over 500 judges came together at 62 judging days from March through to early July and the judging roadshow took a turn at the impressive Llandrillo College, north Wales, as guests of the Welsh Government.
